We will be packing thousands of our Mac & Cheese and our Beans and Rice meals. These meals are specially formulated so they are high in protein, minerals and vitamins. This formulation not only stops the effects of malnutrition but reverses them! Half of the meals packaged will be going out to help our friend Dave Houck of SOZO kids who helps the poverty-stricken children and families living in the woods of The Ocala National Forest. The other half will be used in our Disaster Relief program. In the past year, over 1 million meals went to help victims of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria and were shipped to Texas, The Florida Keys, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands. Just in the past 2 months 30,000 meals went to the victims of the volcanic eruption in Guatemala and another 15,000 meals went to the flood victims in South Texas. When disaster strikes we can't have delays waiting for a packaging event - we have to respond immediately!
If you've been to a packing event before, Thank You, BUT this is NOT a normal packing event! This is a #FOODPARTY! At a #FOOD PARTY, we pack meals like normal, BUT we have a ton of fun and excitement while doing it!
We'll have oldies hits, a professional photographer taking free, red-carpet style pics as you enter the event, a swag bag filled with goodies from local businesses, and a whole lot of fun. It's so much fun! Not only that, but you'll be able to watch these meals go out the door, get loaded onto the truck and head right out to the Ocala Forest and to our Diaster Relief partner, Remote Area Medical so they can be used right away! Talk about feeling good!
As always, the community's help is vital in making this happen. Sign ups to reserve your spot to volunteer start August 4th on the DTD website: www.deliverthedifference.org/Florida.
When you sign up we are asking each volunteer to donate $20 to help cover the cost of the ingredients. As you have heard us say before each meal costs 30 cents for the ingredients and everything involved in packing the meal. No one donates the ingredients but we do work to get the best price. Our goal is to pack 50,000 meals, but to do that we need to raise $15,000! Your donation will help us reach this goal and ensure that we get as many meals as possible to those struggling in the Ocala forest and are ready for when the next disaster strikes.
